Mood Board

Rough Idea

 Rough Outline

Once we got into our groups we began thinking about different types of genres and films we had seen. We thought of what types of films interested us and why.  Then we each looked at our favourite film, what made it a good film to watch, why did it appeal to us and how did it keep us ‘hooked’ all the things that made a good opening to a film was what we needed to be thinking about to add into our own as we wanted our film to be a success too.
First we did a brainstorm so that we could write down all the different ideas we had this way we could look at what would work and what wouldn’t. Our group then agreed that our favourite story line was about a assassin hired to get a necklace that held a secrete from a girl.
This is just our first basic idea it will be developed further to make it more interesting.

We put a mind map together because we had so many ideas we wanted to see what we had, make sure we hadn't forgotten anything and also take out anything we really didnt need.

Storyboard

This is our new storyboard for our ident, we made this one due to the lose of a group member. We decided to make the ident like this because it contradicts our whole film which is what we wanted to do with the ident to add a unpredicted twist to the start of our film.

Genre

How we chose our genre:

First thing was to decide on a film title. As a group the first thing we did was to get a rough outline of a story and then work on a title, we chose to go with the story line of the man trying to get this key etc...
so thought of a couple of titles but we decided that the ones we where coming up with where a bit off putting, didn't follow the story or had no relevance. so then we thought of the name "The Key" its short, punchy, mysterious and relates to our film.
The only problem i think that this could have is that in cinemas if someone saw the title "The Key" would they be compelled to go and watch without reading about the film.

I looked into action thriller films and what people would expect from them this is what I found:

"Action thriller: In which the work often features a race against the clock, contains lots of violence, and an obvious antagonist. These films usually contain large amounts of guns, explosions, and large elaborate set pieces for the action to take place. These films often have elements of mystery films and crime films but these elements take a backseat to action." - Wikipedia.

Now reading this short piece from Wikipedia shows me that people like a lot of action in there action thriller films but with myself and my group wanting to take a lean towards the more "mystery" factor to these films as well as keeping the "action thriller" concepts, we sort or put the two genres together.

Props and Costume

The props that will be used in the making of our film opening have been:

- knife (murder weapon)
- hair clip (to break in to the house)
- the key necklace (object the man is after)
- paints (to get the cut)
- Tri pod (for the steady shots we need)
- camera (to film)
- two tapes (in case of one gets damaged)

The costume's of the male and female in our film opening will be:

The female will be dressed in casual around the house clothes like jeans, top and a cardigan. As for the male he plays a mysterious role in the opening so he will be dressed in trousers, shirt, double breasted coat and smart foot wear.

We have chosen these costume's because we are trying to create a mysterious but thrilling opening  to our film which is why the male is dressed how is because you don't really know who he is or what he his doing so dressing him the way we have dressed him is the only hint because he looks like some sort of trained man who is breaking into a house?

initial idea

Brief:

The initial idea for our film, is that it is based on a thriller film similar to the Bourne movies or a James bond film, we chose this idea because we thought it would make for a good movie opening and with this chosen genre we can do a lot with it and leads to endless amounts of creativity.
We chose to do some sort of murder and a to leave the opening on a cliff hanger like the beginning of a chase for something.
The scenario we chose to use was to make this man who has been following this young women who has this key that the man wants. I think that it is a simple idea but can be evolved into a lot of different situations and endings.

Inspirations:

James Bond

Where I got our inspiration from was films like James Bond films where you have a secret undercover agent on a set mission to either obtain, save or kill someone we took this idea and we developed and twisted it into a undercover agent but in our case he has been employed to hunt and take the key from the possession of a young women.

Bourne

What I liked about the Bourne films is that they are mysterious, mind boggling and creative, I like the fact you don't really know what is going on in the film until it happens and you don't know who the characters are until the director or screen writer allows you to find out who they are, what's there purpose and what they are going to do?

Tomb Raider

In tomb raider films I always enjoy the same sort of story, there's an object/artifact that everyone is trying to get hold of and you never find out what this object can or will do until they have it! This is why i wanted to include something like this in our film to add to the drama, to add more and more different aspects of suspense.
